SoundSnake Music Production Tutorials

SoundSnake > Computer Music Production

SoundSnake was initially started as a project in early 2009, but was occupying too much time to complete. The project was resumed in late 2011 due to the lack of useful, simple, and relevant information available for novice producers/musicians when producing music.

The truth is that to 'create a tune', 'make beats' or 'compose music' you don't need to be able to play an instrument or be classically trained. People who are classically trained are able to know instantly what sounds good and why. The beauty of producing audio with a computer is that you can try out several ideas and see which sounds best, meaning composition by 'trial and improvement' works just as efficiently.

By being able to read this it is likely that the computer you are working on will have enough power to get started with production. To get going you don't need to buy any expensive equipment. This free site starts off at absolute novice level, starting with the basics of music production, before moving up to how to produce a complete commercial-sounding track!

Due to the nature of computer music, this guide will be targeted more towards electronic music production, such as dance, dubstep and ambient. However, many of the production techniques and information will be useful to novice producers of all genres - classics, rock, pop, vocal, and ambient music - it's possible to produce all this and more with just a computer!

Thanks for visiting, and best of luck as you start producing music!
